Five of the doujinshi I bought over a month ago finally arrived and like I should be preparing two of my final projects but I'm having so much fun glossing over these 🥹 especially bc the artists wrote thank you notes. One even wrote "You really like HyoShun huh"😭😭😭 (me funaron verdaderamente) (I mean, it's actually different in context bc it's more like "The one you like is HyoShun huh… or so I gathered. But I hope you also like MilMus" BC THEY SENT GIFTS!!!!)

I've seen you talking about the mask rule, but what about male saints who wear masks, like Midgard or Toma? Is there any explanation, at least headcanonical or is it just for ✨a e s t h e t i c✨ (or for plot twist)?

This is an easy answer for me. Forgive any mistakes, I’m really tired, but I wanted to write something about it. 

Midgard was straight up just plot twist material. We weren’t supposed to know it was Hyoga, they weren’t supposed to know it was their fellow Saint. A mask is the best solution for that.  If Hyoga had shown up without a mask, no doubt the movie would have been considerably shorter. Athena discovering a brainwashed Saint right away would have helped greatly in understanding what was going on in Asgard, thus shortening the movie itself and removing the shock effect of Midgard revealing himself as Hyoga. 

Toma, on the other hand, is probably half plot twist (and plot armor) and half aesthetic. Having his face fully uncovered could have helped Marin in recognizing her brother way faster (logically speaking, if Marin already has some proof and then she look at his face and it has way too many similarities to hers, that’s an immediate confirmation). The mask helps dissimulate.  Not only that, but (and this is straight up artistic interpretation, I have to use what I learned in uni after all) the mask could be symbolic, could be something that gives more meaning to his desire not to be recognized as a simple human.  It can have a dehumanizing (in a good way) meaning, for him, just like the mask for the female Saints is a symbol of them renouncing their female identity. 

There’s a lot more men in Saint Seiya that wear masks, either full or half ones, but most of the times they mean nothing but usefulness.  Ares wears a mask to conceal his real identity, the God Warriors (yes, I’m incuding them) wear the half masks that come with their armors for practical means, Ikki himself hides behind a mask at the very beginning of the series to avoid being immediately recognized and for practical use. Even some Specters have their faces completely hidden, and we saw Saga & co taking advantage of that to hide their identities. 

In short, doesn’t matter if the mask is separated or included with the armor, male Saints and fellow male warriors mainly wear masks for useful means. In fact, aside from Toma, I cannot really pinpoint a man that uses a mask for symbolic purposes, and even Toma is kind of a stretch.

The fight between Shiryu and Hyoga in the Asgard movie is so much fun because (1), is the only time we see the bronzes go head to head with eachother, and (2) you can tell that Shiryu doesn't want to fight his brother

Granted, he was in shock at the revelation, but he did fight anyway.

And I want to highlight the part where they fell into the water because that was a conscious decision

Shiryu did that on purpose, and at first, I was like, "Why? Why would you send a very talented ice user to a battle ground cover in water. Sometimes he can easily use to his advantage?"

Because, for a moment, I forgot that Shiryu's cosmo is strongly linked to water. His training focused a lot on changing the flow of a waterfall. Chinese dragons, which his cloth represents, are highly tied to water bodies. He was not at a disadvantage there. If anyone, among the 5 bronzes, could defeat Hyoga on these conditions, it would be him

The bronzes are young and emotional, but they are not dumb, being on water gives them both a boost.

Maybe Hyoga immediately attacked because he knew he needed to freeze Shiryu before he could attack

At the end, neither was standing

And I do think neither wanted to hurt the other for real.

Shiryu understood nothing but knew he couldn't lower his guard in front of Hyoga. This fight may not be canon,but it shows the respect he has for his brother's fighting skills.

MGMT is one of my favorite bands and I tend to think about Hyoga when I listen to their songs so I kind of themed my blog around it. Siberian Breaks prompted my url and “Floating away isn’t rough, but it’s not enough” is a lyric from that song. My tags are also lines from their lyrics.

Seeing a Camus or Issak of course, lol. Really, seeing more people entering the rp fandom would be pretty neat. Aside from that, I’m interested in roleplaying with everyone tbh but I get too nervous about approaching others and too paranoid about my own shortcomings or writing.

10.  How do you feel about the interpretation of your character vs the fandom?

I don’t think I’ve seen anything that would be deemed too out of character when it comes to Hyoga, especially compared to the others that get it more often. I guess when people exaggerate his feelings toward his mother but then again it’s usually for like a comedic effect so.

11. Do you have fun RPing?

Yes! Even when I don’t have the motivation or muse to reply, just getting on and seeing everyone’s responses and interactions is very enjoyable.

Hyoga seems like a chill guy so I’d think so.

Being a gold saint preparing for the next Holy War (I guess Hades comes back somehow, bummer) or anything with Midgard Hyoga cause that seems like a lotta fun.

19. What’s your opinion on blog themes? How do you feel about your own?

People tend to have really nice and elaborate themes and they put mine to shame lol. As long as I can find their rules and it’s fairy simple to navigate (not like, super complicated) I wouldn’t have a problem, go nuts with your really fancy themes.

20.  What’s something that would make you unfollow a mutual?

Aside from an obvious “Don’t be homophobic/racist/transphobic..” if I go a long time (a very long time) without interacting with a mutual at all, I’d probably unfollow.

21.  Three big no-nos to do or say to your muse. (their ‘berserk button’)

Don’t talk about his mother. Touchy subject. A stranger bringing up his friends in conversation will make him alert (that goes double for Shun), and don’t bad-name his master.

22. Three interesting little tidbits or facts of your muse.

1) Hyoga ʀᴇᴀʟʟʏ likes coffee. He prefers it black and he has a slightly dented aluminum mug that he always uses. It’s one of the few items he’s retained from his childhood so he mostly keeps it around for nostalgia.

2) He’s always wanted a dog but he’s always on the move and knows he wouldn’t be around all that much to care for it. He’s not much of a cat person.

3) His showering habits include using a bar of soap for everything (instead of using shampoo) because he wants a shower to be quick and over with, and stealing some of Shiryu’s products on occasion because they smell nice.
